What time is it? It's Physics time!

Everyone has this immediate thought of Physics as a hard subject. This teacher, however, proved all of us wrong.

It was the first day of classes and JCA seniors can't help but worry, especially now that they have Physics as a subject. Rumors started to circulate about how hard it is and to make it worse, they thought that their new Physics teacher is strict - as in very strict.

But all their "theories" were proven incorrect once Mr. Wilfredo Adorio, Jr. entered the classroom and started talking.

At the age of 27, Mr. Adorio already has degrees in Physics and Nursing, and is currently taking up Master of Science in Nursing in a school in Manila.

You may ask yourself, "Why would someone be interested in a hard subject like Physics?" His answer was simply because it's fun to teach because it can be applied in our daily lives.

Being a new teacher, he has his own impressions of his students.

"Willing silang matuto," he said, obviously not disappointed with the openness of JCAians to learn new things from him.

At first look, one would think that he's not the approachable kind - maybe, a terror at that - but he showed it otherwise during his discussions, where he throws a couple of jokes here and there.

"Magaling magturo saka ayos yung mga jokes niya," one student said when asked about him.

Clearly, Mr. Adorio has made learning and studying Physics fun all at the same time. This has prompted fourth year students to ask for more come Physics time.

"Oh? Exam na pala?"

This is the prevailing response of JCAians when asked about the First Periodical Exams on August 10 - 12.

With a few days left before the quarterlies and projects stuffing their tight schedule, JCAians are still having problems managing their time.

"Di pa ako nagrereview kase hirap mag-manage ng time," junior Hena Ibatuan told In and Out.

The upcoming entrance exams spell double trouble for fourth year students, especially those who are in the thick of preparations for the University of the Philippines College Admissions Test on August 7 and 8.

"I'm striving to make my dream come true," said Alexandra Jessica Esponga of IV-Victorious. "That's why I have high hopes."

A time to laugh and a time to weep; a time to work, a time to live; a time to win and a time to fail. Back to school mode. Bye, beaches. Hello, books.

The school year has just begun. So many things were unexpected. New teachers, new government, new people, so many new faces and the biggest change: the new Kibbutz. So many things have changed, and I don’t know where to start.

Let me begin with the teachers. Well I, for one, have thought that they would be pushovers. They all look so young, but honestly the new teachers of JCA really do know what they are talking about in front of the class. It is true that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. The teachers look sweet but I used to think that they are somehow incapable of teaching us students, they look kind of weak. Well they sure proved me wrong.

Next, the new SSG, lead by Ms. Danielle V. Nakpil as the president of the student body and Mr. Josiah Albelda as their adviser, promises to make this year a school year nobody would ever forget. From what I’ve seen in the last few weeks in school I would say that they really trying their best to make this school year rock.

New faces, the numbers of students of JCA increased this year. And I like what I’m seeing most of the new students are nice and they know how to treat the people around them. That’s nice, actually I think everybody should be like that so that no body will ever get left behind.

The new Kibbutz, it has a very cool new look. The staff even has a new uniform. The rates have been decreased and the food is still the same. But with new looks comes new irritating rules. Well we can't have everything, I guess, there’s always a catch.

So many things has already happened, its only been one month. What else would happen next? One thing's for sure, this year would be different.

An Angel in Disguise

Each year, new students meet new people with new faces and new personalities. They have to deal with the changes and adapt with the new environment they are now in. This kind of situation does not happen only to students but to educators as well.

This school year, the High School Faculty welcomed a lady with a refreshing beauty, Ms. Novafe Deticio. She is the new Citizenship Advancement Training (CAT) teacher of the fourth year students. And when students from the lower year levels learned that she's the new CAT commandant, they quickly thought that Ms. Deticio is a monster.

"The purpose of the CAT is not to torture the students but to build their character." This is her idea and outlook of what the CAT is all about.

And as her students always say, "She's more of an angel than a monster."

To trust in the Lord and to pursue their dreams are the things she wants the students to do. Like what all educaters say, "Mag-aral mabuti!" is her command.

Ms. Deticio did expect a lot from JCAians. And she admitted that unfortunately, not all students have met her expectations. "It really depends on the student," she commented.

Ma'am also expressed her concern for the students when she said that she wants to help them in some ways. She would love to have them build the character that they can bring even when they leave JCA.

"God called me to teach here," Ms. Deticio beamed.

That is what she believes and holds on to. She has had a lot of reasons for applying to be a teacher in JCA but she believes that the Lord's call made her splash into our world.

No wonder why her students don't call and see her as a monster nor a headache. For it is God's will that she is here.

“Cute naman ng anak ni teacher!”

This is one of the compliments given by the JCAians as they glare towards the direction of where the chubby child was. Where else could this child inherit her cute characteristics except from her mother herself? She is gifted with beauty and brains plus moral values. No doubt, this kid would surely be molded as a God-fearing woman.

Born on the 28th day of October 1979 in Cavite, the eldest among three siblings and a graduate of Tourism from Centro Escolar University (CEU) and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in TLE in Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), Mrs. Marinel Tan, indeed, was molded by time and her experiences in life as a woman with substance and exceptional beauty and respectful that made a man named Michael Israel Tan fall in love with her.

Their love story started when they were acquainted by common friends in year 1996. Soon, they fell in love with each other and made God as the center of their relationship. They were perfect for each other as others could see them as well as in God’s eyes . They soon took it to the next level and they got married on the 13th day of December, 2000.

Their love bore fruit as she birth to a cute girl named Myles. Ms. Tan never forgets to discipline her daughter like she does as a teacher. She depends on the Holy Scriptures which tells that the best way to discipline a child is by using a rod but with love as well. She puts her words into action, she teaches her daughter what’s right from wrong and good from bad.

She is indeed blessed having such family. Her siblings were also blessed. Her brother is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and her sister is a Physical Therapist by profession.

To impart her blessings, she decided to work as a teacher. She then taught at Redeemed in Christ School (Marikina) but she resigned. Now, she is handling classes here at JCA.

As a teacher, she disciplines her students by letting them know the things that make her angry. She’s quite expressive, vocal and someone that’s approachable. It’s very rare that someone would be irritated, not unless they’re just insecure. She always wear a smile as she enters rooms full of different attitudes and personalities.

Despite the fact that she works hard as a teacher, Ms Tan sees to it that she could also be a loving and responsible wife. She still dates with her husband like they were teenagers. They still watch movies together. She’s still the one who cooks for her family.

This Caviteña who loves the color violet really shows how a wife, a mother, and a teacher could all be in one person. Ms. Marinel Tan proved it and will leave a legacy to be remembered by people.

Not just to be remembered but to be imitated also by the next generation.

Isang masayahing guro na kahit ilang problema pa man ang dumaan ay nanatili pa ring nakangiti.

Sa bawat ngiti na inihahatid ni Bb. Marbie Teope Estefania sa bawat isa, kasiyahan ang hatid na nagbibigay-ligaya sa araw ng mga mag-aaral. Sa murang edad na 23 at sa pangangalaga nina Ricardo at Margie Estefania, isang biyaya ang kanilang natanggap na tunay nilang ipinagmamalaki.

Isa sa kanyang hindi makakalimutang karangalan ni Marbie ay nang makapasa siya sa Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) noong Setyembre 2008.

Bilang guro, siya ay masayahin at kuntento. Hinahangad niyang maging isang propesyonal at matagumpay na guro sa kolehiyo. At bilang isang paghahanda sa kanyang pangarap, kanya munang isinasalin ang kanyang sarili sa pagtuturo sa hayskul at dito sa JCA siya nahimok upang magturo ng Ingles.

Sa bawat pawis at hirap na dinadanas ng guro sa pagtuturo, hindi pa rin nito nakakalimutang ngumiti na para bang wala itong problemang hinaharap.

Maging masayahin, pasensyoso, at positibo sa mga dinadanas na suliranin sa pagtuturo at manghawa ng ligaya at tuwa, iyan ang gustong gawin ni Ma'am. Tunay ngang isang mahusay na guro si Bb. Marbie dahil sa kanyang walang katapusang ngiti na ipinapataw sa iba.

Sa taong ito, maraming guro ang nadagdag sa JCA na siguradong magpupuno ng karunungan at kalinangan para sa mga estudyante na litung-lito at balisa sa mga asignaturang kanilang pinanghihinayang ng lakas.

Marami sa mga gurong ito ay bago lamang sa larangan ng pagtuturo at ang iba naman ay nagsimula sa karampot na klase. Marami sa kanila ay mga bagong gradweyt lang, ngunit ang itatampok natin ngayon ay isang guro na nagsimula sa tutorial center.

Si Bb. Evelyn V. Doce, 42, ang nagtuturo ng Math sa mga mag-aaral ng high school na hindi masyadong bihasa sa nasabing subject.

Hindi maikakaila ng isang prolipiko at mahusay na guro si Doce. Nasabi nating ganito dahil karamihan sa kanyang mga tinuturuan ay aminado sa angking galing niya. Sa ganoong tingin, sa maliit na center lang pala nagsimula si Ma'am.

Siya ay ipinanganak noong Disyembre 3, 1967 sa Batangas City. Ang mga magulang niya ay ang mag-asawang Veancio at Juana, isang bagong magkabiyak na nag-iisip sa kinabukasan ng pamilya. Si Evelyn ay ikalawa sa tatlong magkakapatid.

Bata pa lamang ay di na matatawaran ang galing ni Ma'am. Naging honor student siya sa St. Bridget's College noong elementarya. Inulit niya ang karangalang ito noong sekundarya sa nasabing paaralan.

Kumuha siya ng BS Education sa unang dalawang taon niya sa Batangas State University. Dahil sa hindi niya gaanong napagtagumpayan ang kursong ito, lumipat siya ng BS Electrical Engineering at nagtapos noong 1986.

Humiwalay si Doce sa kanilang pamamahay at pumunta sa San Juan para maging substitute tutor sa isang center dito. Nanatili siya ng dalawang taon matapos makuhang permanent tutor dahil sa husay na ipinakita niya.

Dahil sa gusto pang mapalaganap ang karunungan, nag-apply si Doce sa JCA nitong bakasyon para magturo. Siya ay intasan maging adviser ng III-Mighty ngunit ang isa sa pinakamahalagang toka niya ay ang Challenge Math class.

Isa sa mga bagong inobasyon ng JCA, hinati ang Math sa bawat year upang ang mga marunong na ay mapagaling pa at ang may mga problema ay matutukan ng maigi.

Sa pamumuno ni Bb. Doce, unti-unting nagkakaroon ng interes ang mga estudyante sa Matematika. Naging kasigla-sigla sa mga aktibidades na ginagawa nila at nag-iimprove sila sa klase.

Tunay ngang masasabi natin na huwarang guro itong si Bb. Doce. At sigurado akong marami pa siyang maibabahagi sa mga mag-aaral ngayon at sa mga susunod pang henerasyon.
